Which Ingersoll-Rand air chain hoist
has an internal oiler?
The Palair CP Series of gear motor air hoists
with pendent control have internal oilers. The purpose of
this oiler is to provide air line lubrication to the gear
motor where an external oiler is not practical. These rugged
hoists were designed for the mines where external oilers
are easily broken while dragging the hoist around. Temporary
rigging for construction and shipyard work would also be
suitable applications.
The internal oiler provides enough lubrication
to the motor for proper operation. Capacity is quite limited,
though, (0.21 liters or 7 oz.) and there is no way to check
the oil level except by removing a tapped plug. For these
reasons, it is recommended that the use of the hoist with
the internal oiler be limited to applications where it is
accessible for frequent level checks and filling.
An internal oiler is not available with
the Palair CP Series with pull chain control. For these
models, an external type lubricant must be used for motor
lubrication.
As is the case for all chain hoists, lubrication
of the load chain is a separate maintenance item and must
be performed in accordance with the owner's manual.
